Schuylerville boys basketball cracks top-20 in state poll

Riding a five game win streak, Schuylerville's boys basketball team (6-1) finally moved up from "honorable mention" to a ranked position in the latest Class B state poll put out by the New York State Sportswriters Association.
The Black Horses are now ranked 20th in the state — several spots behind Section II foes Catskill and Watervliet. The No. 12-ranked Cats are undefeated (10-0) and won't face any serious competition until playoff time.
No. 8 Waterviliet had an interesting week off the court after an ineligible player forced the Cannoneers to forfeit their first seven games. Starting from scratch, however, Watervliet beat Mechanicville for its first official win of the year and NYSSWA pollsters do not think the setback will affect their end-of-year potential.
Meanwhile, Schuylerville is undefeated in Wasaren League play and unbeaten since leading scorer Shane Lyon and big-man Dan Waldron returned from injury. With they way they've been playing defense and a favorable schedule the rest of the way, it will be interesting to see how high the Black Horses can climb.
Greenwich is the only other Saratogian-area school in the boys poll. The Witches (6-3) garnered an honorable mention in Class C.

Agree with the ranking? Disagree? Any team you think got snubbed? Let us know in the comments or send me a message on Twitter.
