Schuylerville baseball throws its hat into Wasaren title race

Before the season, Schuylerville baseball coach Darrin Renner thought his young team was good enough to qualify for sectionals for the first time in the past few seasons. After Thursday's 6-3 win at Wasaren League rival Greenwich, the Renner's Black Horses might be setting their sights a little higher.
"I think what happened today is our kids went from a group of kids who were thinking about sectionals to a group of kids who are thinking about fighting for a league title," Renner said. "That's a nice transformation to see."
The Black Horses got a complete game seven-hitter from Jake Petralia on the mound and clutch hits from Tanner Dunkel, Clayton Patrick and Zack VanKeuron as they scored six runs on the Witches' strong pitching staff.
"Codie Brown and Tanner Dunkel, our No. 1 and 2 hitters, did a great job at the beginning of the game setting the table and our big hitters came up and drove those runs in," Renner said. "That's what we've been doing."
Junior Pete Telesco took the loss for Greenwich which now has losses to Stillwater and Schuylerville. Hoosic Valley routed Schuylerville but lost to Greenwich. Hoosick Falls is also alive with one loss (to Schuylerville)  to put the league title up for grabs in the second half of the season.
Whatever happens though, Schuylerville has a reason to be confident going forward.
"I think when we they walk on the field they expect to win and that's a good thing," Renner said.
