Schuylerville boys soccer rocks pink socks for breast cancer awareness month

Black Horses - pink socks
By DAVID M. JOHNSON

Pink is all the rage in the professional sports in October because of national breast cancer awareness month. In the NFL, gloves, hats and mouthguards are pink, while major league soccer players are wearing pink shoes and WNBA teams held "Rock the Pink" nights before the playoffs began.

In recent years, high schools have begun to don their own pink accessories to raise awareness. Schuylerville's boys soccer team did so this year with pink socks. Coach Dave Gauci did the dye job himself for the 11-1 Black Horses.
After each game, Gauci collects the socks so they don't end up in the wash with their white home jerseys.

Authentic game-worn socks
On Saturday, Saratoga Springs and Saratoga Catholic will play in Queensbury girls volleyball team's "Power of Pink" tournament.

What play pink games have you seen/attended this high school season? Do you think the campaigns has been effective at raising awareness or donations? Send me a message or comment below.
