Saratoga Springs Recreation Basketball League
The Saratoga Springs Recreation Basketball League registration is taking place on a first come first served basis. Spaces are limited for grades K-12 and filling up fast. Register Monday-Saturday 9 a.m.-8 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m.-7 p.m. at the Saratoga Springs Recreation Center, 15 Vanderbilt Ave.
The program will start the week of Nov. 5.
The cost is $70 for city residents, $90 for school district and $115 for non-resident/non-school district.

Skidmore women’s basketball clinic
The Skidmore women’s basketball coaching staff is holding Sunday clinics for girls in grades 6-12 in preparation for the winter season.
The camp runs every Sunday through Oct. 28 from 10:30 a.m.-noon for grades 9-12 and 12:30-2 p.m. for girls in grades 6-8 at Skidmore College.

SAFE soccer program
Sports Are For Everyone (SAFE), a not-for-profit organization that runs sports programs for kids with special needs, is holding a soccer program at the Clifton Park Commons each Saturday through Oct. 20 at 10 a.m.
Children five years and older with mental and/or physical challenges are encouraged to participate.
SAFE provides an environment that allows children with special needs to build self-esteem, confidence, and friendships through sports by providing opportunities to socialize and exercise both their motor and life skills.

Intro to Field Hockey program
The Intro to Field Hockey program is taking place every Thursday through Nov. 1 from 5:30-6:30 p.m.
The program will be held at the North Side Fields for children grades 2-6. The goal of the program is to develop the fundamentals necessary to be a successful field hockey player.
The cost is $50 for Saratoga residents, $75 for non-city and $100 non-city/non-school.

Youth Soccer Training Monday nights at Gavin Park
First Touch Soccer USA, in partnership with the Saratoga Wilton Soccer Club, is offering training sessions focusing on individual soccer skill improvement. The sessions are run by St. Rose men soccer coaches Matt Jones and Stephen Hogan and their staff of current and former collegiate and professional players from all over the world. The sessions are open to all boys and girls ages 6-14 from Saratoga, Wilton and the surrounding areas.
The sessions occur every Monday night until Oct. 22 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Gavin Park. The program costs $72 for all six sessions or $15 for each individual session.

Saratoga Kinderskate program
The Saratoga Springs Recreation Department is currently taking registration for it's Kinderskate program. This program teaches the basics and beyond of ice skating to children as young as 3 years old. Classes are held Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays starting on Oct. 16 and consist of a half hour instruction and a half hour practice. Cost is $30 for Saratoga Springs residents and $60 for Non-City residents.

Boys and girls youth basketball league
Boys and Girls Youth Basketball League registration will be available for kids in Grade K-12. The league runs from Nov. 3–March 23 and will be held at the Saratoga Springs Recreation Center.
The cost is $70 for Saratoga residents, $90 for non-residents and $115 for non-city/non-school. Registration is available from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday or from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Saratoga Wilton Soccer Club Fall Soccer Academy
The Saratoga Wilton Soccer Club has announced the creation of a new 8U and 10U Soccer Academy Program for the 2012-2013 season. The program is designed for soccer players who are looking for advanced skills training beyond what is provided by recreational soccer. Boys with a strong interest in improving their soccer skills and playing soccer at higher levels will gain the most from this program.
The Academy will feature weekly training sessions with the best coaches in the area.
Practices will be each Thursday night through Oct. 25. The cost is $90 and includes a SWSC shirt. Those interested in continuing this soccer program into the winter and spring will have an opportunity to do so by registering for those academies later in the 2012-2013 season.

The Adirondack 14U Blue and Gold baseball teams will be holding spring tryouts Oct. 6 at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. at Gavin Park.
The Adirondack 14U Blue team will hold tryouts at 11 a.m. with the Gold team holding spring tryouts at 3 p.m.

16U Northern Titans baseball tryouts
The 16U Northern Titans are holding an open try-out for the 2013 fall baseball season. The Titans play in the highly competitive Eastern NY Travel Baseball League and will compete with teams from the Empire State 16U Mickey Mantle League. The team will also play in local and regional tournaments.
If interested in joining the team, the tryout will be held Sunday, Oct. 7 at Round Lake field from 10 a.m.-noon.

Saratoga Stampede American Legion baseball tryouts
The Saratoga Stampede Legion baseball program will be holding tryouts for the 2013 season. The Stampede program will field a 19U Sr. Legion team and a 17U Jr. Legion team next summer. Players residing within the following school district boundaries are eligible to play legion baseball for the Stampede: Ballston Spa, Saratoga High, Saratoga Catholic, Schuylerville, Galway, Mechanicville and Stillwater.
There are multiple roster spots available on all levels. The tryouts will be held Oct. 14 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m., Oct. 15 from 7-9 p.m. and Oct. 16 from 7-9 p.m. at Eastside Recreation.

Adirondack Baseball Showcase
The Adirondack Hawks baseball program and Hawks 18U coaches, Tom Coons and Dave Palmer, will be hosting the Adirondack Baseball Showcase, Sunday, Oct. 14 at Gavin Park in Wilton. The showcase will begin at 9 a.m. with check-in/registration and field work beginning at 9:30 a.m.-3 p.m.
Players will be given the opportunity to showcase their abilities, become familiar with the college recruiting process and be evaluated. The showcase is limited to 50 participants and registration deadline is Oct. 10. The cost is $100 per player.
Players should dress in baseball pants and bring their own bat, cleats, glove, hat, betting helmet if possible etc. Each participant will be provided with a showcase tee shirt to wear. Catchers should bring their own equipment.

Adirondack Avalanche 14U softball tryout
The Adirondack Avalanche a competitive 14U fast-pitch softball travel team based in South Glens Falls is seeking players for the 2013 travel season. The team is currently looking for committed players at all positions.

The Malta Community Center is offering two new fitness classes that run Thursdays for four weeks each from Oct. 18-Nov. 8.
The 20-20-20 class is from 9-10 a.m. incorporating cardio, strength, and flexibility, and Body Basics is from 10-11 a.m. and includes tips and strategies you can fit into your daily life.

The 12th Annual Great Pumpkin Challenge
MVP Health Care presents the 12th Annual Great Pumpkin Challenge to benefit Saratoga Bridges on a paved course in the Saratoga Spa State Park, Saturday, Oct. 20 at 9:30 a.m.
The 5K walk/run is sanctioned by the USA Track and Field Adirondack Association and will run simultaneously with the 10K. Long-sleeved moisture wicking T-shirts and a discounted rate of $22 for people who register by Oct. 1. The cost is $25 by Oct. 20. The Kids Fun Run, for children 12 and younger, begins after the 5K and 10K finish and costs $5. There is no day of registration.

The Sports Barn/Hayner Academy indoor baseball registration
Live indoor baseball games will begin its 12th year of league play at The Sports Barn/Hayner Academy in Halfmoon on Oct. 22 for boys ages 7-13.
Applications are being accepted for teams (7 players per roster) to compete in either the 7, 8 or 9 “Coach Pitch” Division; 9, 10 or 11 AAA Division or 11, 12 or 13 Majors Division.
Cost is $90 per player and the registration deadline is Oct. 16.

Frisch Soccer Academy Halloween Spooktacular
Saratoga graduate and former native Jen Frisch, former Assistant women’s soccer coach at the University of Rhode Island and Director of the Jen Frisch Soccer Academy, and the Saratoga Wilton Soccer Club will be hosting the Halloween Spooktacular Oct. 27 at Gavin Park.
The Halloween Spooktacular is a 3-on-3 soccer tournament for boys and girls U8-U12. Create your own teams with a maximum of six players on a team. Each team will play a minimum of four games. The cost is $25 per player and participants may wear a team Halloween costume.

Fall basketball clinic at SUNY Adirondack
The coaches and players of the SUNY Adirondack men’s basketball team will be hosting a clinic Saturday Oct. 27 from 9 a.m.-noon and Sunday Oct. 28. 8:30-11 a.m at SUNY Adirondack Bay Road Gym.
The fee is $55 and includes a free T-shirt.

Hayner Academy baseball and softball hitting leagues
Registrations are being accepted for players who are of high school age (Grades 8-12) who wish to compete in The Sports Barn's Fall Indoor Hitting Leagues set to begin the week of Nov. 5.
Players form their own team of three hitters per team and will compete against other teams in either Varsity (Grades 10-12), JV (Grades 9-10) or Freshmen (Grades 8-9) divisions depending on age and skill level.
Players will hit off Hack Attack Pitching Machines, the most accurate machine on the market capable of throwing numerous pitches at varying speeds with amazing accuracy, and their swings will be scored using a predetermined point system. Weekly and cumulative point totals for individuals as well as team won/loss records will be recorded and posted weekly on line at www.haynersportsbarn.com. The leagues will compete Monday-Thursday with start times at 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.

Golf clinic at Saratoga Rec Center
The Saratoga Recreation Department is offering the Golf World Clinic once again this year. The clinic is open to anyone age 9 or older and will run from Nov. 6 to Dec. 4, Tuesdays at the Saratoga Rec Center from 5-6:30 p.m. The clinic will teach the fundamentals necessary to be a successful golfer. Space is limited.

11th annual Saratoga Turkey Trot
The 11th annual Turkey Trot will take place Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 22 at 8:30 a.m. on Broadway of Saratoga Springs. The race starts on broadway, into Skidmore and ends on North Broadway.
The entry fee is $22 by Nov. 15 and $25 between Nov. 16-22. Check-in will be the evening of Wednesday, Nov. 21 from 4-8 p.m. or race day from 6-8 a.m. Mail registration to CDF c/o AREEP P.O. box 38195, Albany, NY 12203 or register online at christopherdaileyfoundation.com.

Turkey Trot in Clifton Park
The first annual St George’s Turkey Trot will be held Nov. 22. Thanksgiving morning, with warm-up at 7:45 and a 5K run/walk at 8 a.m. There will a be kid’s run ($1 registration fee collected at the starting line), the DJ from Beaming Sounds Music and Lighting, and event shirts for the earliest registrants.
