Saratoga Catholic coaches and seniors pose before a game against Berne-Knox

Almost as a tip of the hat to their incredible week (seven wins in five days), Saratoga Central Catholic's undefeated (14-0, 18-0) Class B baseball team was bumped to the No. 1 spot in the latest New York State Sportswriters state rankings. The Saints rallied to beat Berne-Knox on Senior Night Tuesday, swept a double header at second place Fort Plain on Wednesday, handed Mekeel Christian its first league loss on Thursday, edged Canajoharie Friday, needed 11 innings to top Glens Falls in the first round of the Phil Waring Saturday and, finally, rallied from a 2-0 deficit to beat Schuylerville 4-2 to win the tournament finale.

In Class AA, Shenendehowa's ranking dropped to the No. 13 after it lost to No. 17-ranked Saratoga Springs on Monday. Suburban Council rival Guilderland appeared on the rankings for the first time at the No. 20 spot.
